Deepak is the Vice President, Asia Program Operations at Room to Read, an organization that believes World Change Starts with Educated Children.® Room to Read envisions a world in which all children can pursue a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential and contribute to their communities and the world.
As Vice President, Asia Program Operations, Deepak oversees the full portfolio of projects in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, working with country leadership teams to manage operations in those seven countries. Deepak has been with Room to Read for more than ten years, previously managing Africa operations and serving as the Operations Director in India.
Prior to Room to Read, Deepak worked with Global Partnership for Education (GPE) at The World Bank, where he evaluated education sector plans for Pakistan and Rwanda, created early grade reading trackers for member countries, and wrote on the management and logistics of large scale early grade reading programs and results-based financing of education. Deepak has also worked extensively with Pratham, one of India’s largest education non-profits, in work aimed at improving the quality of education and increasing sector accountability through government and community involvement. With a background in management, development and leadership, and work experience across continents, Deepak lends a uniquely grounded perspective to development issues, especially in education.
Deepak holds a degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, and an MBA from Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), and was Fulbright Nehru Leadership fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School.
