Neelam was 12 years-old when her mother enrolled in her Room to Read’s Girls’ Education program. Like many girls in Delhi, she grew up in an impoverished family without enough food to eat or clothes to wear. At 15, her mother’s health declined and her father developed a drinking problem, forcing her to take responsibility over the household. With her independence came waves of local resistance. Yet, armed with the confidence developed through life skills classes, Neelam stood up for herself and her independence. She’s now an inspiration to her community and an agent of social change.
Neelam’s just one of the many girls across Asia and Africa battling cultural, financial and safety issues to graduate secondary school. By becoming a monthly donor, you help ensure more girls have the mentorship and resources to #BeBoldforChange!
