Christabel Pinto is an educator with more than 20 years of experience teaching children, facilitating teacher professional development, designing education programs, and engaging communities in Africa, Asia, and the United States. In her role as the vice president for literacy at Room to Read, she leads the design and execution of Room to Read’s literacy portfolio with the goal of ensuring all children acquire both the skills to read and a deep desire to do so.
Prior to joining Room to Read, she was a senior specialist for education at Save the Children. Christabel’s expertise in education crosses subject and age boundaries. Previously, she has designed early grade numeracy programs; worked with young adolescents, teaching them math, science, and sexual and reproductive health; and served as a guest lecturer on child and adolescent development at San Francisco State University.
Christabel has an M.S. in education from Bank Street College of Education and an M.A. in international education development from Teachers College, Columbia University. Outside of work, Christabel can be found tending to her house plants, baking biscotti and tinkering on her ukulele.
